Do you know that feeling when, you just have to? Well, I just had to do a beetroot smoothie. I added some fruits and if I did not tell you there was beetroot in this smoothie, you wouldn’t even know. My best is making a smoothie, and sending it off with the hubby to work not telling him what is in my concoction, then during the day I usually get a call or message (we are big on whatsapp messaging here) saying what a great ‘xyz’ smoothie it was. Great compliment, but he usually doesn’t know the key veggie ingredient I had tossed in. Actually, is that a compliment or an insult to my concoction? Hmmmm whatever, oh well, it is healthy and that is all that matters :-).
Beetroot and Berry Smoothie
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Total time: 7-8 minutes
Makes 2 cups
Ingredients:
100 grams raw beetroot
100 grams fresh strawberries
100 grams fresh blueberries
100 grams milk of your choice
Instructions:
Blend all the above ingredients in a blender until smooth. This will take approximately 2-3 minutes.
Once done, pour into a glass.
Enjoy 🙂
NB* Feel free to also roast your beetroot till it softens slightly if you are afraid your blender might struggle. It works just as well, just don’t go and salt and pepper it 🙂
That smoothie looks and sounds delicious! Now I have to go purchase beetroot! Great job sneaking in the veggies for your hubby 🙂

Oh that looks so healthy and so pretty and something I really should partake of with beets being a superfood and all! I just wish I liked beetroot!! 😀

Paula, thank you 🙂 you are so sweet. Never mind, one day maybe, a beet will sneak into a smoothie you have 🙂 . The fruit really disguises any beet taste, maybe you could up the fruit quantity and put in less beet, so it is still healthy…more like….wean you onto beets (lol) x

I love beetroot but it can sometimes taste earthy. Perhaps it’s better to take on the taste of the berries?

The berries and the beets work well together, and the beets are not overpowering at all. 🙂 If you want to try this, taste and add more berries 🙂 It will still be scrumptious 🙂

I love beets but just warm with balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. American beets seem to be less earthy than those in colder climes.

Hmmmm that is interesting, well I have to admit beets with balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper is a win in my books.
South Africa is a warmer climate, so I am guessing the beets we get will be considered less earthy? Whatever, taste, add berries, make it happen, this smoothie is awesome 🙂 🙂 🙂

It looks truly delicious with such a vibrant color. We used to have a special pot to cook the beets in – as it ruined everything else.😘

I have something like this at a local juice stand with my grandson. He calls it “purple juice.” Kids love it, and it’s so much healthier than his other favorite – milkshakes!

That is awesome Diana 🙂 Nice that he is liking the purple juice. When I was growing up there really was not these kind of juices around. We have come a long way around over the years, and to get kids into the healthier way of eating and drinking wherever possible can only be a huge plus ! 🙂

You’re so right, Lynne. Food choices have come a long way when I think of the boxed and canned stuff I ate as a kid. I’m glad there are better options now and hope someday the prices for quality food will come down so all family can eat healthily. 🙂

That color is so pretty and the way you decorated everything makes it even prettier! If only blueberries weren’t so expensive

Lindsey, thank you. You are very kind. Blueberries are quite pricey on my side of the world too, which really is so sad. Hope you are having a great weekend. 🙂

Do you cook the beets first?

Jodi, I kept the beets raw for this smoothie (just peeled them). Hope you enjoy this as much as I do. 🙂

Ok good to know! I just almost killed my blender this past week making kale dip, and is still emits an odor when using it so may have to hold off blending something tough like beets unless I want to send it to the appliance graveyard. lol! But if I ever upgrade to a heavy duty blender I will try it out!!

Oh no! sorry to hear that. But, I can relate. What about either chopping the beets up small or grating them?
Also, I am sure roasted beets would be great as well, just roasted plain….just a thought 🙂

Roasted beets would definitely be softer! I will try that!

That is fantastic. I really hope you love it as much as I do. Just to let you know, if you grate your raw beetroot is will be easier to blend and even roasted beetroot works just as well. 🙂 Have a good week !
